The Splendide Royal is a small hotel occupying a 19th century building facing Villa Borghese park, 500 meters from the Spanish Steps. The 68 guest rooms feature decor redolent of a 17th century villa, with crown mouldings, sculpted ceilings, Persian rugs and bathrooms of Carrara marble. The striped curtains and floral bedcovers in golden yellow, blue and red are inspired by colours worn by the Vatican's Swiss Guards. All rooms are equipped with mini bars, satellite television, wireless Internet surcharge, and remote drapery and lighting control. Bathrooms include toiletries, makeup mirrors, two sinks, scales, slippers and bathrobes.

The building that houses the hotel was constructed as a Maronite convent in 1880, a small church and cloister lie within the complex. The reception area has a cream and black marble floor, antique paintings, gilt edged mirrors, an ornate coffered ceiling and a glittering chandelier which was used in the ballroom scene of the 1963 film Il Gattopardo The Leopard. Mirabelle, the hotel's roof top restaurant offers views of the city and the Borghese Gardens. Lemon and white table linens and fresh flowers set the scene, and the room is candle lit at night. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily, jackets are required and reservations are necessary. A buffet breakfast is served each morning in the Terrace la Limonaia dining room, which is also available for private dining. Fitness and health enthusiasts can work out in the gym on the fourth floor. The hotel houses three meeting rooms, which can accommodate up to 50 persons and are equipped with audio visual facilities, and wireless Internet access is available in public areas surcharge. Villa Borghese is across the street from the hotel. Bicycles are available for rent at Villa Borghese, and on special request they can be delivered to the hotel. Guests will find the Roman ruins of the Forum and the Coliseum within one kilometer. Fiumicino Airport is 30 kilometers distant, around 45 minutes by car. This hotel accepts small pets only.

Driving Directions

The airport train and taxis official ones are either white or yellow are available for transfer from the airport to the Termini station in the center of Rome. From there, guests can take the Metro to Barberini station, 700 metres from the hotel.
